Out of the Blue

The other day I was supposed to drop something to the recycle bin.
Because I like the blue texture on a silvery background, I thought why not taking some pictures prior to complete the action?

The photos were uploaded and distributed on Google + some hours later, and now it is the time to show them here, along with some very good music. Mr. Blue Sky is a famous track from Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO in short) album named Out of the Blue.

Right Before the Storm

A couple of days ago, I was driving on the ring road of my hometown, and the skies were somehow angry. They were angry all this summer and most of the springtime. After ten or fifteen minutes, the storm came, and there were heavy rains. Luckily not for long!

I couldn't help myself, so I pulled over, and took a few shots (smartphone quality). The wind blew with such anger that I barely could made the camera to properly focus. Anyway, here are some relevant shots.

When I shot the pics (and also shot a short film sequence), a panorama was into my mind, only Google preceded my action! In Romanian there's a saying, "Gand la gand cu bucurie", roughly translated: "Thought to thought with joy". Here's the result after Google's enhancement:

A short video would complete the other day's atmosphere depicted in the above photographs with moving images and the original sound of the wind.

As a conclusion I might say that this was "A Show of Power", an impressive performance of Mother Nature. She says "This is just the beginning!".

Then the storm was ON...

Photography Exhibition

Today, 10th of May, 2014, was the opening of Drobeta Turnu Severin Photographers' Council Photo exhibition at the Castle of the Arts (Water Tower) at 16:00.

Iulia Midus is one of the exhibitors, making me a proud father! :-)

Congratulations to all the photographers!

The pictures called Close and Summer Feeling are two of her four displayed photos, and they are available on her 500px account.

Are you visiting Drobeta Turnu Severin during this May? A visit to the Water Tower will reveal not only the above mentioned exhibition, but another two exhibitions, and from the top, a wonderful panorama of the city!

Enjoy!

Power and Earth

Megalomany isn’t the reason the power systems got a continental spread! They have evolved naturally, based on an increasing demand of energy.
Nuclear Power Plant, France
Their evolution and expansion were a combination of technical and technological developments on one hand, and the urge to generate more efficient and more economic the electricity demanded by the consumers on the other hand. Thus, the power units became bigger and bigger, and more and more efficient and reliable.

Battersea Power Station, London (the dark building with four dark-white towers in the background)
Along with the development of the power systems and the expansion of the power network, also increased the claim of the consumers related to the quality of the energy that they pay, and the power systems were constrained to keep up with this aspect.
Photovoltaic roof, Germany
This means that generating power using many, only small units with low efficiency, instead of using large and very large power units with high efficiency, will have a negative impact on our energy bills.
A dying Sun and an overhead power line in Belgium
Regarding the environment, the power generated from renewable energy resources are welcome, only this power generation should be generated and used in remote areas, and used locally and individually. The power system should not depend on them as reliable resources!
Nuclear Power Plant, Germany
One day we will face the situation in which we are in a forest of wind turbines with no shade of wind! We will walk on fields of photovoltaic panels, and the sun will have no desire to show its bright rays… And this will happen when we will no longer use conventional energy resources! Would this be a happy day on a freezing winter day?
Wind Turbines, Austria
In such a “beautiful” day will we remember the Earth Day, or the Earth Hour?
Earth Day must be every day, and Earth Hour must be each and every hour!

The resources, no matter if conventional or renewable, must be used rationally!

Danube and Some Rain Clouds Nearby

Quite a pretty day today on the Danube's left bank!
Though, one could spot some rain clouds nearby.
I captured some of them with my cell phone...

A Grey Day

The other day I was on a short trip by car, along with my daughter, around Malovăţ, near our city.
My daughter.
After some 15 km away from the city, we've spotted a high ground that allowed us to make some nice panoramas.

I must admit that I was completely unprepared. After just a few photos, my batteries must be replaced. All the other three pairs were discharged, so from this moment on I was only a car driver.

Anyway after some 5 km more, another place made us pull over, and this time I was using the camera of my cell phone.

Although it was grey, it was also a great day! A great day for taking photos.

Winter Sunset

After a few days with temperatures recording many degrees (Celsius around here) over zero, the snow is only visible on the top of the distant mountains, and "palpable" on some dark corners where it was previously concealed during its removal.

The other day I was driving back home, only the sunset didn't let me drive in peace, so I pulled on the right side of the road in order to shot a couple of pictures on the Danube River left bank.

Frozen Melted Snow

Yes! It was snow, it melted, then it was freezing in the evening!

Three photos of the same surface (the roof of my car), in three different places, at three moments in time: 17:39, 18:05, 18:10 (Jan. 14th, 2014).

Three different colors: light blue, silver, copper.
